About Habiture

Natural Luxury Interiors with Soul, Warmth and Character

Who I Am, What I Do, Where I’m Based

My name is Moniek, I am originally from the Netherlands, and I have been living in Switzerland for more than 16 years with my husband and our son. While my professional background is in marketing, communications, and commercial operations within the healthcare industry, interior design and house renovations have always been my true passion.

Habiture was created to share that passion — natural, warm, stylish interiors that feel unique, timeless, and personal rather than standard or trend-driven.

The Meaning Behind Habiture

The name Habiture is inspired by a blend of “Habitat,” “Nature,” and the French word “Habiter”, meaning “to live” or “to inhabit.” Together, they reflect the idea of creating a home that feels warm, natural, calm, and deeply personal.

For me, a home should not only look beautiful, but also feel grounding, lived-in, and full of character. Habiture is about creating interiors with warmth, natural materials, timeless decor products, and a quiet sense of luxury, spaces that truly feel like home.

I focus on natural luxury interiors: homes with warm materials, antique elements, soft colors, natural textures, and a calm, elegant atmosphere. Interiors that feel like a boutique hotel, but still are a real home.

My Story

Since I was young, I have always been fascinated by houses, renovations, vintage furniture, and interior styling. Whenever we moved or renovated a house, I was always focused on the atmosphere, the materials, the colors, and how a house should feel when you walk in.

Together with my husband, I have managed several house renovations in both the Netherlands and Switzerland. These were very hands-on projects in which we restored houses, preserved their original charm, and added natural, stylish, and warm interiors. We are not fans of very modern houses, cold interiors, inox materials, or anything that feels artificial or unnatural.

Our goal in every renovation is always the same:
Bring back the house's charm, respect its history, and create a warm, natural, and elegant home that feels unique.

Many people who visit our homes say the same thing: “This house feels different. It’s not standard. It feels warm, unique, and stylish.”
That is exactly the feeling I want to help others create in their own homes.

The Habiture Philosophy

Habiture is not about following trends. Trends change, but a warm and beautiful home should feel timeless.

If I look at what I end up choosing, it’s often quite similar. I seem to go back to materials like wood or stone without really thinking about it. Sometimes ceramics as well. The colors stay on the softer side, mixed with copper or gold. And I do like adding older pieces here and there, just because it gives a bit more character.

Lighting plays a role as well. I don’t like it too bright or too cold, so I usually keep it softer. And I try to leave space for the house itself rather than covering everything up. In the end, it’s not really about following a style. It’s more about creating a home that feels warm and lived-in, and not something that looks like it could be anywhere. I believe a home should tell a story and feel like a place where you can truly relax.

What Makes Habiture Different

Habiture is different from many interior design websites because it is not about modern design, fast trends, or perfect showroom interiors.

Habiture isn’t really one clear idea for me. I just noticed I keep choosing the same kind of things. Warmer interiors, nothing too trendy though, always standing out. I also like combining older, antique products with more natural materials. It just feels less standard that way.

For me, it’s also less about decorating and more about how a space feels. And I often think of that quiet, comfortable feeling you get in a nice and chique, boutique hotel, and then translate it into a home. In the end, it comes down to creating a place that feels calm, personal and a little different, not something that could be anywhere.

The goal is not to make your home look like everyone else’s home. The goal is to make your home feel like your own luxury retreat.
